Pylons
On the A454 between Wolverhampton and Bridgnorth there are a number of varied and accessible pylons (including one you can climb in under – trespassing?). In 2009 I took a number of photographs as source material for future work.
I have always been ambivalent about pylons. In about 1967 (under the nom-de-plume of Teri O’Neal) I wrote of their eating up “the last unknown corners of our sacred land” but also of being “majestic in their defiant beauty”.
I feel these images (original digital photographs; charcoal and pastel drawings; and photographs (digitally enhanced and printed onto aluminium Dibond)) demonstrate both their grand and threatening nature.
